Whisper Not takes out San Francisco Mile Stakes
Former shuttler Poet’s Voice (Dubawi) was represented by his 22nd stakes winner on Saturday when Whisper Not (4 c ex Poyle Meg by Dansili) - a British-bred son of the late Darley Stud-based sire - landed the San Francisco Mile Stakes (Gr 3, 9f) at Golden Gate Fields.
The Richard Baltas-trained four-year-old colt stayed on bravely to come out on top of a close finish to beat Keeper Ofthe Stars (Midnight Lute) by a head, while Restrainedvengence (Hold Me Back) was a further two lengths adrift in third.
Whisper Not was purchased for 4,000gns at the Tattersalls December Foal Sales in 2017, before being bought by Peter and Ross Doyle for €20,000 at the Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale.
After being sent into training with Richard Hannon, for whom he won two starts, Whisper Not was purchased by Meah / Lloyd Bloodstock for 90,000gns at the Tattersalls August Horses-In-Training Sale last year.
The colt is one of three winners out of the three time-winning Dansili (Danehill) mare Poyle Meg, while further back this is the same pedigree as Grade 2 scorer Jemima (Owington) - the dam of Listed scorer English Colony (Rock Of Gibraltar).
Poet’s Voice shuttled to Australia for five seasons and his 22 stakes winners include four Australian black-type scorers, headed by 2018 LKS Mackinnon Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m) winner Trap For Fools. The son of Dubawi (Dubai Millennium) died in 2018.
