Son of Street Sense to head to Kentucky Derby
Having taken out the San Vicente Stakes (Gr 2, 7f) at Santa Anita on February 6, Concert Tour (3 c Street Sense - Purse Strings by Tapit) added a second stakes victory to his record and took his unbeaten record to three when he landed the Rebel Stakes (Gr 2, 8.5f) at Oaklawn Park on Saturday, with trainer Bob Baffert now looking to target the Kentucky Derby (Gr 1, 1m2f) with the colt.
After leading throughout, the son of former shuttler Street Sense (Street Cry) scooted clear to beat stablemate Hozier (Pioneerof The Nile) by an impressive four and a quarter lengths. Big Lake (American Pharoah) was a further three-quarters of a length away in third.
Baffert said the colt would take in the Arkansas Derby (Gr 1, 9f) on April 10 en route to the Kentucky Derby, which takes place May 1.
Bred and raced by Gary and Mary West Stables, the colt is the only winner out of the winning Tapit (Pulpit) mare Purse Strings.
The colt’s third dam is unraced mare Wind Chime (Marfa) - the dam of stakes winner My White Corvette (Tarr Road), who in turn produced multiple Grade 1 winner Stardom Bound (Tapit).
Further back the colt is from the same family as stakes winner Native Echo (Crimson Satin) - the grandam of Listed scorer Catabolize (Prospector Jones).
Street Sense shuttled to Australia for five seasons and he is represented by ten stakes winners in the country, headed by Group 1-winning quartet Dixie Blossoms, Sense Of Occasion, Politeness and Hallowed Crown, who stood his first season at Twin Hills Stud in 2020, having stood at Darley Australia for the five previous seasons.
