Frosted Prayer proves too strong for rivals at Churchill
Darley shuttler Frosted (Tapit) was handed his second first-crop winner when his son Frosted Prayer (2 c ex Stormandaprayer by Songandaprayer) produced an extraordinary performance to break his maiden status on the third attempt at over 6.5 furlongs at Churchill Downs on Tuesday.
The colt finished seventh on debut, before running 11th on his second start, but there was no mistaking the result on Tuesday as the colt beat Smooth Music (Maclean’s Music) by an emphatic ten lengths. Two Worlds (Tapiture) finished another length away in third.
In winning the race, Frosted Prayer becomes the fourth winner out of Listed-placed Songandaprayer (Unbridled’s Song) mare Stormandaprayer, who is herself a daughter of Grade 1 winner Stormy Pick (Storm Creek).
Stormy Pick herself is a grandam of Listed-winning trio Net Gain (Include), Kram (Colonel John) and Cat Five’ O (Pleasantly Perfect) - the dam of Listed winner Tut’s Revenge (Eskendereya).
Frosted Prayer joins Inject as Frosted’s other winner. The son of Tapit (Pulpit) has shuttled to Australia for three seasons where he has covered 288 mares and he is covering his fourth book of mares at Darley’s Northwood Park base in Victoria for a fee of $22,000 (inc GST).
