Coolmore Stud shuttler American Pharoah (Pioneerof The Nile) was provided with his second juvenile winner in as many days as the William Mott-trained American Monarch (2 c ex Front Range by Giant's Causeway) made a winning debut over 8.5 furlongs at Saratoga on Saturday.

Bred and raced by Mike Rutherford, the two-year-old colt prevailed in a close finish to beat Secret Potion (Into Mischief) by a nose with another half a length back to Pivotal Mission (Noble Mission) in third.

American Monarch is the first foal out of dual-winning and Grade 2 placed Giant's Causeway (Storm Cat) mare Front Range, who is herself out of triple Grade 1 winner Lakeway (Seattle Slew).

As well as producing Front Range, Lakeway is also the dam of Listed winner Sluice (Seeking The Gold), who in turn is the dam of Spinster Stakes (Gr 1, 9f) winner Mushka (Empire Maker), while she is also the grandam of Dattts Our Girl (Thunder Gulch).

Further back this colt shares a page with Grade 2 winner Grand Adventure (Grand Slam), Grade 3 winner Scotus (Successful Appeal) and Listed-winning trio Harmony Hall (Gilded Time), Miss Marcela (Bodemiester) and Orange Crush (Distorted Humor).

The win follows up the victory of American Grace (2 f ex Warrior Maid by Holy Bull), who scored a two and a half length debut win on dirt at Ellis Park on Friday.

American Pharoah's progeny is headed by Grade 2-winning pair Sweet Melania and Four Wheel Drive and he will stand at Coolmore's Jerrys Plains base for a fee of $55,000 (inc GST) in 2020, while his first-crop of southern hemisphere yearlings hit the tracks this season.
