American Pharoah colt scores an easy win at Gulfstream.
The Peter Brant-raced and Chad Brown-trained Basquiat (3 c ex Davalarious by Distorted Humor) scored an impressive victory on debut at Gulfstream Park on Saturday.
The Shadwell Stable-raced Ashiham (Tapit), a US$800,000 Keeneland September Yearling Sale buy, was beaten a length and a half by Basquiat for second, whilst Dreams Of Tomorrow (Speightstown) finished third.
Bred by Brant's White Birch Farm, Basquiat is out of the Listed placed Divalarious (Distorted Humor) who is a half-sister to multiple Group 1 winner Taipan (Last Tycoon) as well as fellow Group 1 winners Ali-Royal (Royal Academy) and Sleepytime (Royal Academy). This is also the family of Godolphin's 2017 Doncaster Handicap (Gr 1, 1600m) winner It's Somewhat (Dynaformer).
Coolmore's Triple Crown winner American Pharoah (Pioneerof The Nile) has sired 38 winners from his first American-bred crops headed by six stakes winners to date including the Grade 2 winning pair Four Wheel Drive and Sweet Melania.
