The ownership Group 1 of 11-time Group 1 winning mare Verry Elleegant (Zed) announced on Thursday that the mare has been retired from racing and will remain in France to be covered by a leading European stallion next year.

Originally trained in New Zealand by Nicholas Bishara when she won two of her three starts, Verry Elleegant was then transferred to Australia and the stable of Darren Weir.

She won the Group 3 Ethereal Stakes (2000m) in October 2018 for Weir and had her first start for Chris Waller in February 2019. Verry Elleegant won her first Group 1 race in the Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) in March 2019 and her second at her next start in the Australian Oaks (2400m).

In May this year, Verry Elleegant transferred to France and the care of Francis Graffard. She had four starts in Europe, placing once in the Group2 Prix Foy (2400m) in September.

The Jomara Bloodstock-owned mare retires from racing having won 16 of her 42 career starts and she placed in another 12, with her prize money totalling almost $15 million.
