A look back on the stallions who produced winners at this year’s Melbourne Cup Carnival.
Yulong celebrated victory multiple times with horses carrying the green and white colours during this year's Melbourne Cup Carnival, but their stallions also had a successful week with residents of the Nagambie operation among the week's standout sires.
Alabama Express celebrated a maiden Group 1 win when Treasurethe Moment won the VRC Oaks and freshmen stallion Lucky Vega produced a Stakes winner with just his third starter when Within The Law won the Restricted Listed Inglis Banner on Champions Day.
But it was Written Tycoon's deeds on Melbourne Cup Day that earned the former Australian Champion Sire award winner most successful sire of the week honours.
The son of Iglesia bookended the program with Tycoon Star and Bel Air, having also won the race after the Melbourne Cup with Catoggio.
Alabama Express was one of only two other stallions to win multiple races for the week, with Darley's Ribchester the only other to win multiple races with different horses; Garachico and Pisanello.
All up, 33 different sires celebrated winners with the eight Group 1 races all won by different stallions.
