Lei Papale remains undefeated after six starts in Osaka Hai
The Tomokazu Takano-trained Lei Papale (4 f ex Shells Lei by Kurofun) provided her late sire Deep Impact (Sunday Silence) with his 48th Group / Grade 1 winner when she took out Sunday’s Osaka Hai (Gr 1, 2000m) at Hanshin.
Away well from the barriers, Lei Papale went to the front on settling. She was taken to the centre of the track in the straight and went on to score an impressive four length victory in the very heavy conditions. Mozu Bello (Deep Brilliante) finished second with another three quarters of a length back to multiple Grade 1 winner Contrail (Deep Impact) in third.
Bred by Northern Farm, Lei Papale has now son six times and is one of two Group winners out of the stakes placed Shells Lei (Kurofune) with her brother Shining Lei (Deep Impact) winning at Grade 2 level in Japan. Shells Lei is one of nine winners and four stakes performers out of the Listed placed Oyster Ticket (Winning Ticket).
The late Deep Impact currently sits at the head of the leading sires table in Japan with progeny earnings of Y200,000,000 ahead of nearest rival Lord Kanaloa (King Kamehameha).
