Three-year-old son of Newgate Farm’s Deep Field wins his third race
Winner Method (3 g Deep Field - Magical Belle by Blackfriars) maintained his unbeaten record in Hong Kong with a good victory in Sunday’s Lai Chi Chong Handicap (1000m) at Sha Tin.
Ridden by Zac Purton, the son of Newgate Farm’s Deep Field (Northern Meteor) raced handy to the pace in the early stages. He came under pressure with 300 metres left to travel but responded well and won with a little in hand, defeating Brilliant Fortune, another son of Deep Field, by a length and a quarter with another two lengths back to Metro Warrior (Fastnet Rock) in third.
Winner Method, who was bought by Bjorn Baker Racing and Clarke Bloodstock for $150,000 from the draft of Attunga Stud at the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, is now undefeated in three starts in Hong Kong. He is one of four winners from five foals to race out of his dam, the winning Blackfriars (Danehill) mare Magical Belle who has also produced stakes winner Enchanted Dream (Patronize) and stakes placed Mystic Maid (Patronize). Further back this is the family of Group 1 winner Jungle Dawn (Jungle Boy) and dual Group 2 winner Jungle Mist (Jungle Boy).
After not being served in 2019, Magical Belle was served by Capitalist (Written Tycoon) last November.
Newgate Farm’s Deep Field is currently the seventh leading sire in Hong Kong by earnings. He has had seven winners so far this season who have won 15 races with prize money earnings totalling HK$21,868,000.
Overall, the son of Northern Meteor (Encosta De Lago) has sired eight stakes winners and Portland Sky became his first Group 1 winner when he won the Oakleigh Plate (Gr 1, 1100m) earlier this month.
