2019 Cox Plate winner welcomes first foal at Northern Farm
The 2019 Cox Plate (Gr 1, 2040m) winner Lys Gracieux (Heart’s Cry) foaled a colt by former Arrowfield Stud shuttler Maurice (Screen Hero) at Northern Farm on Sunday.
During her racing career, the daughter of Heart’s Cry (Sunday Silence) landed the seven of her 22 starts - including four at the highest level - which saw her amass $17,521,721 in career prize-money.
The mare won her final start, the Arima Kinen (Gr 1, 2500m) in December 2019, after which she was crowned Horse Of The Year In Japan.
Maurice finished second behind Duramente (King Kamehameha) in Japan’s first-season sire championship last year. The stallion sired 39 winners, headed by Grade 3 winner Pixie Knight and four stakes placegetters. Maurice has sired one winner from 14 runners in Australia.
Maurice had eight lots sell for an aggregate of $1,110,000 at an average of $138,750 at this week’s Inglis Classic Yearling Sale and he has six lots set to sell at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, which gets underway at Oaklands Junction on February 28.
