Veil Nebula scores stakes success in Junior Cup.
The Masahiro Otake-trained Veil Nebula (3 c ex Ring Nebula by Heart's Cry) stuck in the Junior Cup (Listed, 1600m) at Nakayama on Tuesday and in the process handed Shadai Stallion Station-based sire Lord Kanaloa (King Kamehameha) with his 24th stakes winner.
Bred and raced by Katsumi Yoshida's Northern, the three-year-old colt showed a good turn of foot to beat Jean Kazuma (Harbinger) by three-quarters of a length, while Bisonte No Bufalo (Precise End) was the same distance away in third.
Veil Nebula is the only winner out of three time-winning mare Ring Nebula (Heart's Cry), who is herself a daughter of American Grade 3 winner Uname (Marquetry).
Uname also produced fellow Grade 3 winner Westerlund (Neo Universe) and the dam of stakes winner Cosmic Force (King Kamehameha).
Further back the colt hails from the same family as Group 3 scorer Laluche (Alleged) and she in turn produced Landowner (Kris), whose best victory also came at Group 3 level.
Lord Kanaloa's five Group 1 winners include last season's Blue Diamond Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) winner Tagaloa as well as multiple top flight-winning champion mare Almond Eye. Arrowfield Stud will offer a filly and a colt by Lord Kanaloa during the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, which gets underway next Tuesday.
