Chuwa Wizard produces magic at Chukyo in Champions Cup
The late sire King Kamehameha (Kingmambo) was handed his 13th Group 1 winner on Sunday as Chuwa Wizard (5 h ex Chuwa Blossom by Durandal) broke through at the top-level in the Champions Cup (Gr 1, 1800m) at Chukyo.
The five-year-old entire put daylight between him and his rivals, beating Gold Dream (Gold Allure) by two and a half lengths. Inti (Came Home) was another neck away in third.
Chuwa Wizard - who finished fourth in the Group 1 last year - is out of four time-winning Durandal (Sunday Silence) mare Chuwa Blossom, who is herself a half-sister to Listed winner Iron Tailor (Gold Allure) and the dam of Le Vent Se Leve (Symboli Kris S), who landed the 2018 edition of the Champions Cup.
Further back Chuwa Wizard hails from the same family as Listed winner Dyna Fairy (Northern Taste) - the dam of Listed-winning duo Rosen Kavalier (Sunday Silence) and Summer Suspicion (Sunday Silence).
King Kamehameha - who stood at the Shadai Stallion Station for the duration of his stallion career - died last year and he is represented at stud by his son Lord Kanaloa, who sired the winner of last season’s Blue Diamond Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) winner Tagaloa.
Arrowfield Stud will offer a filly and a colt by Lord Kanaloa during the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, which gets underway on January 12.
11. CHUWA WIZARD (King Kamehameha) easily won the G1 1800m Champions Cup with a strong close from 2. GOLD DREAM (Gold Allure) and 13. INTI (Came Home)
