Jo Kana Chan takes Summer Dash
Sunday’s Ibis Summer Dash (Gr 3, 1000m) at Niigata was won by Jo Kana Chan (5 m ex Lucky Dice by Neo Universe) who provided her sire Lord Kanaloa (King Kamehameha) with his 21st stakes winner. The Takeshi Matsushita-trained mare scored by a head from Lion Boss (Battle Plan) with Believer (Monterosso) a further neck back in third.
Jo Kana Chan came into Sunday’s race having been beaten a head for second in a race over 1000 metres at Niigata on May 24 and she has now won five times from 11 starts and placed a further two times including when second in the Yodo Tankyori Stakes (Listed, 1200m) at Kyoto in January.
She is one of two winners out of Lucky Dice (Neo Universe) who was a winner at two. She is herself out of the US Grade 3 winner Miss Vegas (Efisio) who was crowned champion two-year-old filly in Italy in 2003. Further back this is the family of Santa Ana Handicap (Gr 1, 10f) winner Gravieres (Saint Estephe).
Lord Kanaloa stands at Shadai Stallion Station and his progeny include his multiple Grade 1 winning daughter Almond Eye and this season’s Blue Diamond Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) winner Tagaloa.
