WARWICK FARM April 11

Polytrack; Synthetic

21 Heats – 3 x 1175m (3 Open); 18 x 740m (5 Open; 6 2YO; 1 3YO; 6 Maiden)

The second set on the poly at Warwick Farm in four days with the big numbers reflecting how much the rain has impacted on the preps for many horses. Like most poly trials on pace was the place to be so taking much of these heats on face value may be misleading.

Group stars PRIVATE EYE and COUNT DE RUPEE brought a touch of class to the session and their performances pointed to them performing close to their best when next produced. PRIVATE EYE raced closer in his 1175m heat and only had to peel off the backs of the leaders on the turn to put them away under a soft ride in slow time (72.42;42; 35.70. The free-wheeling SPACEBOY (70.18; 34.98), showing his usual pace to win by six lengths, and BETHENCOURT (70.99; 35.74), impressive coming three wide from the rear with a long run from the 600m, were  better on the clock in their 1175m heat wins.

COUNT DE RUPEE showed he was ready to improve sharply on his recent efforts with a bold second in his 740m heat won by the smart CONRAD (43.98; 33.56). The winner had the advantage of leading on the rail and did it well while COUNT DE RUPEE worked to the line strongly from the back half under a cold ride after covering ground on the turn.

In the 2YO heats the Godolphin filly RED CARD made an impact with a sharp win in the fastest of the 18 trials over 740m (43.76; 33.40), doing it easily in a sure sign she has improved since her debut effort in December. She is a Godolphin homebred by Ribchester and it seems the stable is expecting this breed to come to the fore as late 2YOs judging by the good results they have produced in recent trials.

NOTED TRIALS

WARWICK FARM April 8

Polytrack; Synthetic

8 Heats – 1 x 1175m (Open); 7 x 740m (1 Open; 4 2YO; 1 3YO; 1 Maiden)

Sydney's big wet forced these trials to be transferred from Rosehill and were saved by being run on the all-weather Polytrack despite the rain pelting down in some heats.

The good Godolphin mare GEIST and stablemate PANDEMIC worked strongly to run 1-2 in their open heat over 740m (44.09; 33.14). GEIST has come on nicely form her first-up run and can be followed with confidence while PANDEMIC has now had two trials and is always at his best when he runs fresh.

The fastest 740m heat was won by Annabel Neasham's unraced Capitalist colt ECONOMICS (42.91; 33.09) in what should prove a strong heat. ECONOMICS railed well and worked within himself to win the heat by 1.5 lengths from LONDON, another promising Capitalist colt from the Waller stable who had one start in January. He covered the most ground tracking four and five deep on the turn and was given a very easy time by James McDonald in the run to the line.

Godolphin also had some nice 2YOs in the four juvenile trials overt 740m, winning two heats with PORTRAY (44.16; 33.29) and GAYLEBECK (43.94; 33.73). They are both by Ribchester and have obvious prospects. Their early season winner PLYMSTOCK finished second to PORTRAY and the unraced SELOUS, fourth in his heat won by SIBERIAN LARCH (43.85; 33.43) were other Godolphin youngsters to take the eye.

NOTED TRIALS

X Aleas; Born A King; Broken Hill; Economics; Gaylebeck; Geist; London; Pandemic; Plymstock; Portray; Selous; Silentsar; Valentina Express.
