 Gold for Newcastle success

The penultimate contest on Newcastle's eight-race program is a 1250m Benchmark 64 handicap for fillies and mares.

The once-raced Wings Of Desire is expected to jump as favourite for the Michael Freedman team.

Wings Of Desire demonstrated plenty of ability in her last two trials prior to making her debut, including when winning over 1023m at Rosehill last month.

The three-year-old made her debut nine days later, delivering a victory by over a length when contesting an 1100m maiden at Hawkesbury.

This daughter of Pride Of Dubai raced on a good 4 track but appeared to handle a heavy 9 surface in the previously mentioned Rosehill trial.

Wings Of Desire steps up in distance here and, while she rates highly, GOLD DUST is preferred.

The four-year-old broke her maiden when successful by a narrow margin in an 1100m contest at Hawkesbury in October last year.

While the pick failed to shine at Kembla Grange the following month, she has shown solid form in two starts since returning from a spell.

The first of those efforts saw her lose out by a narrow margin when runner-up in an 1100m Benchmark 64 handicap at Hawkesbury last month.

Notably the pick raced on a heavy 8 track on that occasion with the third home Lady Extreme boosting the form with a subsequent victory.

Gold Dust could finish only fifth at Canterbury when racing in a similar contest over the same distance, however she wasn't beaten far on that occasion.

The winner of that race went on to complete a double when racing at metro level at Rosehill subsequently and the pick is taken to salute stepping up in distance.

 Watch to deliver Northam victory

The seventh race at Northam is an interesting 1300m Class 1 handicap contest.

This race, set to take place on a soft 7 surface, has attracted a field which includes Famous Dain, who is expected to prove popular with punters.

Trained by Daniel & Ben Pearce, the gelding ended his last prep with a close third in a 1600m maiden at Albany in March.

A good second in a Lark Hill barrier trial preceded his return to action with Bunbury last month, with the gelding making the perfect return to saluting over 1203m.

The four-year-old came home over a length clear of his rivals when encountering wet conditions for the first time and he is expected to go well stepping up in distance.

However, Grant & Alana Williams' WATCH ME ROCK is preferred in this race, having demonstrated winning form at metro level earlier this year.

That metro success saw the four-year-old triumph by a narrow margin when contesting a 1400m event on a soft 5 track at Ascot in May.

Watch Me Rock followed that up with a good third, beaten just over one-and-a-half-lengths in an 1800m Class 1 handicap on the Scarpside track at Pinjarra.

The son of Awesome Rock was spelled following that effort and a third over 1000m in a Lark Hill barrier trial should have put him spot on for this event.

Apprentice Chanel Cooper takes a valuable three-kilograms off his back and the pair look capable of recording a win together.

 Model for Moree glory

The penultimate contest at Moree is a 1400m Benchmark 58 handicap expected to take place on a soft 7 surface.

LEICA MODEL is set to represent the Stirling Osland stable here and she is the pick to record the third win of her career.

The five-year-old registered some good efforts last season, including when taking out a 1300m Class 1 handicap at this venue in early November.

Leica Model registered her best effort since that triumph when returning to action with a second at Quirindi last month.

The mare lost out by less than half-a-length when contesting a 1200m Benchmark 66 handicap held on a heavy 9 surface on that occasion.

Ben Looker takes the ride in this event and with an inside alley, his mount looks up to returning to winning ways.
