Sydney Specials: Rosehill - 18th May 2019

Cracking meeting at Rosehill on Saturday with a number of fat races and hopefully plenty of value to be had.

Happy to play in the Quaddie with the Matthew Smith trained Grey Lion a key focus point in the seventh event.

Only a recent addition to the stable, Grey Lion is the definition of airborne having gapped them at Randwick last start in the Group 3 JRA Plate [2000m].

At just his second start for the Smith stable, he returned a career peak performance and looks to have more to come.

The SP (40-1) is a slight query, but seeing is believing and the clock certainly backed up the strength of his performance (when adjusted for sectional mark ups).

Since kept fresh (28 days) he has trialled very well in the lead up and should get a lovely run from the inside draw.

Kathy O'Hara sticks aboard and with his even share of luck, he should prove very hard to beat.

In the eighth event the James Cummings trained Deprive creates plenty of interest in his return.

Only lightly raced, he has won four of his seven starts and went to the paddock in great form, having bolted in at Randwick over 1200m.

Given the two trials in the lead up, his latest was very good, finding the line nicely to score at Randwick over 1050m.

The inside draw is a touch sticky, but Schofield knows him well (won 2/2) and with his even share of luck, he should prove very hard to hold out.

Currently rated 107 by Timeform, he looks to have plenty of blue sky ahead of him and don't be surprised to see him measure up in the better races in Queensland.

Big watch on the Kim Waugh trained Newsfan, she too is very talented, but expect Deprive to still have her measure.
