Fastnet Rock became the 100th Graded stakes winner when Desert Stone won the San Gabriel Stakes at Santa Anita.
Coolmore's Fastnet Rock (Danehill) reached a milestone in the US on Saturday when Desert Stone (5 h ex Starstone by Diktat) won the San Gabriel Stakes (Gr 2, 9f) at Santa Anita and in the process became the 100th Graded stakes winner and 155th stakes winner overall for his sire.
A 280,000gns Tattersalls October Yearling Sale purchase by Ingordo / Casse for Zayat Stables, Desert Stone is a brother to Group Three winner Euginio. Trained by Richard Baltas, he scored by a neck on Saturday from Cleopatra's Strike (Smart Strike), his third win from 16 starts. The entire is also a half-brother to stakes winner Handassa (Dubawi) and is the third stakes winner from the late unraced mare Starstone, who died at the age of 13. His second dam is Star (Most Welcome), dam of Group 1 winning sire Pastoral Pursuits (Bahamian Bounty) and his Group 1 winning brother Goodricke.
Fastnet Rock has been enjoying a good season in Australia with stakes winners including Dreamforce, Anaheed and Tuscan Queen. He is also the sire of the Gerald Ryan-trained promising juvenile Return With Honour.
The Coolmore Australia-based sire has 26 lots catalogued for the upcoming Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale which begins on Wednesday.
