Tapit became only the third North American-based stallion to have his lifetime progeny earnings break the US$150,000,000 barrier.
Earnings pass US$150,000,000. On Sunday the Gainesway Farm-based sire Tapit became only the third North American-based stallion to have his lifetime progeny earnings break the US$150,000,000 barrier. The 18-year-old Tapit achieved the landmark with fewer crops of racing age.
Tapit now has US$150,063,321 in lifetime Northern Hemisphere progeny earnings, excluding steeplechases. This places him third behind Coolmore's Giant's Causeway (US$166,500,000) and Smart Strike ($151,700,000 million), and he's reached this figure with only 12 crops of racing age. That is 4 fewer than Giant's Causeway and 7 fewer than Smart Strike.
Magical was the horse to push her sire over the US$150,000,000 bracket when she landed a Listed race at Remington Park on Sunday and in doing so became her sires 130th stakes winner.
Crowned champion sire in 2014, 2015 and 2016, Tapit's 2020 fee is set at US$200,000.
