Less than 24 hours after being crowned last season's champion South Island two-year-old Swiss Ace filly Miss Federer scored her first points in the 2019-20 New Zealand Bloodstock Southern Filly of the Year Series at Riccarton.    

Andrew Carston’s prospects of winning the Gr.2 J. Swap Contractors Matamata Breeders’ Stakes (1200m) were dashed late last week.

Champion sire Savabeel followed his Karaka yearling sale success with a stakes quinella in the Listed Oaks Prelude at New Plymouth on Saturday.

Riccarton trainer Andrew Carston made the bold decision to bypass the Karaka Million 2YO (1200m) last week with Miss Federer in favour of the Gr.3 Woburn Farm 2YO Classic (1200m) at New Plymouth on Saturday and his charge duly delivered for her connections.

Kiwi-bred stayers by Rip Van Winkle and Raise The Flag were too tough for their rivals in 3200m feature races at Riccarton and Sandown on Saturday.
