Warwick Farm trainer Joe Pride added metropolitan winner number 14 to-date for this season when progressive sprinter Recorrido won the $70,000 Blackwoods Gearwrench Handicap Bm 92 (1100m) at Rosehill.
Recorrido, one of the last of the stock of Rubiton as Pride pointed out, was always in control under Christian Reith even though the mare raced at the rear of the field until the top of the straight.
Even though Social Rank was relishing apprentice Chad Schofield's 3kg allowance with a feather weight 50kg up front, and with a 6L lead over Recorrido at the 300m, Reith was measured in his approach.
He sent the mare wide to the middle of the track and a traffic fee lane and Recorrido showed a fine turn of foot to do the rest. She slipped into her work well and Reith had the field and the leader covered with under 100m to run and he was able to ease on the accelerator before the line.
Mighty Obvious was second with Madibagold third.
The margins were 1 1/4L and a nose, with the time 1.03.71 on the Good 3 track, and the final 600m in smart 34.92. Recorrido paid $7.40 on NSW TAB.
“She has come back really well and she has made the transition from a Kembla maiden last preparation to a Saturday class winner,” said Pride.
“I remember a similar transition, although I do not say she is in the same class, with Sacred Choice in her first preparation. They just keep improving these mares and I would like to think she will win a stakes race this mare.
“It was pretty to watch today. I am going to step her up to stakes company at some stage but she probably has another win in her in this grade before we try. There will be a nice race for her over the Christmas and New Year period and we can look forward to a good preparation,” he said.
The win was Reith's 23rd metropolitan success to-date taking him to third equal with the currently suspended senior rider Jim Cassidy behind Kerrin McEvoy and Glyn Schofield on 24 each.
The race was Recorrido's first of her summer campaign and the fourth of her 23 race start career. With six placings she has earned stakes of $166,047 for the Kelly family's FJK Nominees Syndicate.
