Ferrando wins 2018 Te Akau Racing Lightning Hcp Listed NZ$50,000 at Trentham (NZ), 1200m.

A fighting third here two starts back in the Telegraph Handicap (Gr 1, 1200m) but disappointing at his last start, Ferrando was rewarded, leading all the way to record his seventh win (second stakes) in 17 starts.

Rider Matt Cameron wasted no time finding the lead, put a length on them at the 400m, maintained that advantage at the 200m and the 100m but only had a neck to spare at the wire for a tough win.

Heroic Valour is racing very consistently without winning and after being last at the crossing pulled wide into the straight and kept up a solid run, almost catching the winner but too late.

Son Of Maher did not get clear until the 200m then ran on strongly between runners the last few strides to nab a good third from Akoya who tracked the winner down the straight but was swamped late to hold fourth.
