Meteoroid wins 2017 Birthday Stakes Listed $100,000 at Belmont Park (WA), 1200m.

In a four-way finish, the Simon Miller-trained mare Meteoroid followed up her narrow win in the Belmont Newmarket (Listed, 1200m) here on 12 August with another stakes win, albeit again in a photo finish. She settled in fifth place (with cover), behind a steady pace (first 600m in 36.42), challenged at the 300m and then kept battling strongly to grab a last stride win.

Silversteam was last in the seven-horse field, went widest of all on turning for home and ran on well for second, beaten a nose.

Whispering Brook went to the front, eased when pressured at the 600m and after being third around the home turn, she challenged at the 200m and then battled on to dead-heat for third with Rebel King who was outside the leader (Great Shot) at the home turn and then kept fighting on in the straight.
