Husson Eagle wins 2016 Doveton Stakes Listed $120,000 at Sandown-Hillside (VIC), 1000m.
Patrick Payne-trained gelding Husson Eagle scored a smart first up win, his first at stakes level in 19 starts to date. He was ridden quietly from his good barrier (3), settled in sixth place on the rails, behind a good tempo, before getting a split nearing the 300m. He got to the front at the 100m and then fought back to win well, and in good time (56.33).
Miss Promiscuity showed her usual good pace and soon drove through from barrier four to share the lead (racing on the rails). She got a clear break at the 400m and then battled well for a good second after running a bold race.
Rock 'N' Gold settled in seventh place, one off the rails. He put in a good run at the 300m and then kept fighting on nicely to take the minor placing.
The favourite O'Malley was slowly away, settled in second last place in the nine-horse field and never looked a threat prior to making some late ground for (2.9 lengths) sixth.
