Assign wins 2016 Mornington Bmw Cup Prelude Listed $120000, Caulfield (VIC), 2000m.
Irish-bred import Assign is now unbeaten in two starts since resuming after being unplaced at his first two starts since coming to Australia last year. He began well and crossed to lead at the 1400m. He then steadied the tempo (first 1400m 1:27.22) before lifting the pace from the 600m. He grabbed a break approaching the home turn and was not threatened in the straight to win impressively, sprinting home in a smart 34.91 (last 600m).
Stablemate Wexford Town led in the early stages before easing to race in second place. He was under pressure at the home turn but kept battling on well, to take second in a photo.
Extra Zero was back in eighth place, one off the rails. He moved up deep, under riding nearing the home turn, and did well making ground in the sprint home by running on to for a good third.
Tashbeeh was seventh, one off the rails, improved (wide) at the home turn and got to a distant second at the 200m. He then battled quite well, holding on for (2.6 lengths) fourth.
