Hi World wins Frank Packer Plate Group 3 $ 150,000 at Randwick (NSW) 3yo, 2000m.
Hi World worked in the early stages before crossing to the lead at the 1200m. He then settled particularly well (racing yesterday without blinkers) really steading the pace. He sprinted clear nearing the 200m and went to the post strongly to win by a length and half, running the 2000m out well. He is a promising staying colt with bright prospects for the spring.
Wine Tales raced in last place in the eight-horse field to the home turn. She put in a good run topping ‘the rise’, got to third at the 200m and kept running on well for a second, being unsuited to the sprint-home tactics of the race.
Merion settled well in sixth place, one off the rails. He moved up well rounding the home turn, went to second at the 200m and kept fighting to finish third, a head behind the second-placed Wine Tales.
High Midnight was trapped deep in the early stages, worked before settling outside the leader at the 1200m and held second position until nearing the 200m. He then tired after his early efforts for a sound (6 lengths) fourth.
Gouldian was second last on the rails to the home turn and plugged on fairly well in the straight for (8.4 lengths) fifth.
