Saigon Tea wins 2014 Christmas Cup Listed $100,000 at Randwick (NSW) 3yo+, 2400m.
A very good finish between two solid staying mares. Saigon Tea was ridden patiently by Glyn Schofield and settled back in fifth place. She then relaxed well behind a very steady tempo before commencing her run on passing the 600m. She moved up well to challenge at the 300m and then had a great battle with Terai and needed to dig deep to score by a long head.
Godolphin’s Terai raced in fourth place, one out and one back before taking a narrow lead at the 300m. She then battled back particularly well, failing narrowly for a game second.
The only other mare in the race Metaphorical finished back in third place after racing in a handy third on the rails to the turn and leading into the straight while Lucky Lucky Lucky plugged on from the tail of the field for (11 lengths) fourth.
