Listed Calaway Gal Stakes, December 14 - Doomben

Oakleigh Girl outlined her Magic Millions credentials with a win in the Calaway Gal at Doomben.

The early favourite for the Magic Millions Classic, Oakleigh Girl resumed with smart all-the-way win.

She began very quickly from her good barrier (3), went straight to the front and travelled well, steadying the mid-race tempo. She was under pressure when challenged mid-stretch but responded well and drew clear to win by a length, sprinting home in a quick 33.36 (last 600m).

Ambitious Blonde put up a very good performance on debut. She moved up smartly in the early stages and raced outside the leader and eventual winner Oakleigh Girl most of the way. She challenged that filly gamely at the 200m and battled on strongly for an impressive second, beaten a length.

Ruby Soho was fifth one off the rails most of the way to the turn. She was giving the leader about six lengths at the turn, and the struggled briefly as the tempo picked up. But she ran on well in the latter stages to just grab third, her third placing in as many starts, putting up a nice effort in a good quality field.

Totally Sure raced one out and one back in fourth place, went to third at the 200m and was battling on well, looking set to take the minor placing but was overtaken right on the post to finish fourth.
