Brisbane Best : Doomben – 30th March 2019

A competitive 10-race program at Doomben on Saturday where a couple of each way plays could be the best way to go.

The first of those is the talented Brains, who goes around in the South East Floors Class 6 over 1350m.

Brains comes into this off a month let-up but was given a tune up with a solid second in a trial earlier this week.

He has been racing in good form this campaign with fourth placings at his last two outings when beaten less than 2L on each occasion.

Before that he had commenced his preparation with back to back wins here and at Eagle Farm and those efforts suggest the freshness could be the key to him.

The Tony Gollan-trained gelding has won two of four attempts at this distance range and Brad Stewart goes back on after winning on him three starts back.

If he can produce a similar rating to that he could take beating in this line up.

A brave resuming run suggests Mail Escort could offer some value in the last of the day, the Desire To Inspire No Metro Win over 1200m.

On that occasion the gelding camped on the speed and fought on well to only go down by half-a-length when second at this course over 1050m.

That was his first outing for nearly eight months so the run should have improved him and he has won at 1200m so the step up in trip is another tick in his favour.

A veteran of just seven starts, Mail Escort has won twice and was far from disgraced when he took on stakes company last campaign.

He is a horse with some upside and he should be able to settle in the ideal position from the draw.
