Best From The West - August 25

The Chris Gangemi stable is airborne at present and expect Crystal Spirit to be very hard to beat in the sixth event.

A new addition to the stable (formerly trained by Ellerton and Zhara), Crystal Spirit displayed good ability and couldn't have been more impressive in his WA debut.

Lining up in Class 1 company, Crystal Spirit gapped his rivals when scoring by four lengths over 1200m.

Marked just shy of his peak, Gangemi has clearly done a great job with the son of Bel Esprit and he remains open to further improvement racing second up off a mini-break (53 days).

He obviously steps up sharply in grade, but gets every chance down in the weights and has drawn to get a lovely run for Shaun O'Donnell.

When assessing Timeform weight adjusted ratings, Crystal Spirit sits atop and there looks to be more to come.

Close to 2-1 is being offered about his chances which is a more than worthy gamble, have him marked 5/4.

In the second race the Sharon Miller trained Prying Tom can upset the odds-on favourite Red Army having already beaten him two starts back.

Prying Tom then went on to by 6L at Pinjarra and notably meets Red Army 1kg better at the weights.

He will relish the wet conditions and has drawn to get a lovely run for regular rider Alan Kennedy.

While Red Army's SP profile is obviously very strong, it's hard to mark him that short on Saturday and hence the value looks to lie with Prying Tom.
