Best From The West - July 21

The Fred Kersley trained Yindi returned with a bang last start and appears well placed to go back-to-back in the seventh event at Belmont on Saturday.

Having displayed good ability in his first preparation, Yindi placed in three of five attempts and boasted some very strong collateral form.

Returning over 1200m, Yindi proved most impressive when working home strongly from the rear to score easily.

In a race run to suit the front-markers, Yindi's closing splits were very slick and he was a key mark up out of the race.

Resuming with the Bar Plates Off for the first time was a big tick and he is expected to display good improvement racing second up — only had the one trial going in.

Although it's never easy making the rise from maiden company, he strikes a fairly weak race and has drawn to settle closer to the speed.

Sets up well on the relatively quick back up (10 days) and love backing 3YOs against the older horses at this time of year.

He boasts a very strong SP profile and expect him to firm right up come race time.

When assessing Timeform predictive ratings, he holds a distinct edge on his rivals and should prove very hard to beat.

Backing Pike in the last race at Ascot/Belmont is just science and he looks well placed to continue that trend aboard the Darren McAuliffe trained Abdicator.

Although unable to salute as favourite in his return, his performance should give him the perfect platform for Saturday.

Abdicator is unbeaten second up and is unbeaten in both attempts over this trip.

He has drawn to get a lovely run on the inside and rates clear on best form.

Like the fact he comes here with three weeks between runs and with even luck he should take plenty of beating.
