The Straight Six and The Andrew Ramsden highlight a deep and interesting off-season card at Flemington this Saturday.
There are plenty of interesting betting angles on the card with the one that we are keen to zone in on first and foremost being the Ciaron Maher-trained Hardafull in the eighth race on the card.
Haradafull looks to have set himself up ideally for the 2000m contest with a sound effort behind an in-form winner at Cranbourne followed up at Flemington last time behind the potentially very smart Doomben Cup hopeful Articus.
Articus, and of course Hardafull, had first use of the track here a fortnight back, which could perhaps flatter, but they ran strong overall time even bearing that in mind and the winner, who was regarded highly enough to start at 8-1 in a Caulfield Cup, looks set for bigger and brighter things.
Hardafull was no match at all for Articus but a one length defeat may look a particularly strong piece of form in time.
He won't want to go backwards on Saturday with horses such as the very capable Second Bullet lurking around, but he promises to not only hold his form from last time but to go forward on it making the 4-1 being bet fairly appealing.
For an each way play we are looking to race two where impressive last start winner Divine Quality controls the market.
She gave her rivals a headstart last time before rounding them up, spitting them out, and winning running away. It was impressive for sure but the clock, which had already hinted at her being very smart off her debut win, this time pointed towards the fillies behind her being a fairly plain lot.
Maybe the winner is a better filly than Moonlites Choice but Darren Weir's filly almost certianly comes off the better race overall, having chased home the sharp Snitty Kitty in a slick 1100m at Caulfield last time.
She was run off her feet but Snitty Kitty has since advertised the worth of that form running really well up at Scone and a straight 1200m will set up far more suitable for Moonlites Choice than last start did. She represents a good each way gamble.
