Tips and best bets for Doomben Saturday July 23
Oberland will look to return to the winners circle when he lines up in the last on the programme at Doomben on Saturday.
The Robert Heathcote-trained runner returned in good order with a win before he was edged out in a close finish over 1110m at this course last start when favourite.
Steps up to the 1200m for the first time and his four length win two starts back rates very well against his rivals today.
Certainly has ability and open to further improvement third up from a spell looks very hard to beat in this company.
The current price of $3.60 looks more enticing than the shorter odds he went around at last start and the form out of that race albeit in easier company has stood up well.
Expect Oberland to handle the 1200m without too much trouble and on what he has produced to date looks the one they have to beat.
Colinelle returned in good order with a win at Sunshine Coast last start and looks among the main dangers but will need to improve off his first up effort with Dylan’s Luck out of the same race as Oberland also having to improve.
Earlier in the programme Divine Service will be looking to turn his solid recent form into a win.
Has been ultra competitive in all four runs this campaign and although a beaten favourite over 1200m at this course last start he is at much more attractive odds today.
The $5.50 on offer looks a very solid each way bet and having featured in the money 16 of his 28 runs to date should be right around the mark again with the 3kg claim from apprentice jockey.
Has not drawn the best in barrier 12 but he should cross from that draw to settle on the speed and all going to plan will take plenty of running down.
Angel Dancer has won her last two and is one to keep an eye on once again along with the returning Sea Red who can run well fresh.
Good Luck!!
