After some winter respite on a Soft 5 at Rosehill, Sydney racing returns to a genuine heavy surface at Randwick on Saturday.
The nine race program shapes as a challenging one however there does look to be good value about for those willing to chance their arm.
McCreery steps up to a more suitable trip in the Shoot Out Mile.
The gelding started as one of the favourites first up over 1200m at Rosehill where he endured a tough run and was well beaten but under the circumstances was getting to the line well.
He will be fitter and has been kept ticking over with a trial since. This is a method the stable has used to good effect in the past.
The son of Big Bad Bob ran to a Timeform rating of 86 first up, well shy of the best performance he has produced in Australia, assessed at 97p when winning at Gosford.
McCreery boasts a master Timeform rating of 106, achieved when second in a strong mile event while based in the UK at Haydock.
It highlights the substantial room for improvement McCreery is open to on that first up outing.
McCreery strikes a race here lacking in quality and he himself has produced figures which indicate he is of stakes level.
Earlier in the program, Cosmopol can put a forgettable last start outing when contesting the Myboycharlie @ Vinery Handicap (1200m).
The gelding was given no chance last start, caught back and wide with minimal to no cover throughout.
He was entitled to weaken out of things.
Those willing to overlook the run could well be rewarded.
Cosmopol meets the winner of that event Shadow Lord 4kg better at the weights and looks suited just half a kilo above the limit weight.
Tommy Berry jumps back aboard the gelding with the pair yet to run out of the money through three prior starts in partnership.
His lone start on a Heavy 10 returned a placing over 1400m at Warwick Farm.
After the debacle that was last start, don’t be surprised to see Cosmopol ridden far more positively.
