The Melbourne Mail - April 23

John Mcardle's Grey Street has been on an upward spiral this campaign and that spiral is leading to a win at Caulfield on Saturday.

Grey Street goes to Caulfield on the back of a peak performance last time out when giving smart filly Petits Filous a race over the Caulfield 1100m.

The form doesn't look to flatter Grey Street either. Petits Filous has since failed up in class in Sydney, but that was a case of too bad to be true, and we've seen Serenade and Jalan Jalan come out and run well on the back of that piece of form. The race was truly run and the time strong - two lengths faster than Miss Promiscuity (who has since won well again) over the same distance 40 minutes later.

Grey Street also had good substance going into that race. She stuck to her task well behind the handy Super Cash in a competitive race at Flemington and was also very good behind Stellar Collision in good time at the Valley, the winner has gone on with that win since, and the third horse, Viddora, has won twice, including knocking off the well regarded Miss Gunpowder in Adelaide.

With collateral form working out well around those high-rating efforts Grey Street can be fairly confidently bet at Caulfield with her Racing And Sports assessed price closer to even money than the $3 currently available.

For an each way play we head to the last where Real Love sits atop both the weights and the market, and fair enough on both counts.

Real Love is the best performed horse in the race but she appears to be as short as she is off that fact alone, the race scenario itself less than ideal. She's back from two miles and probably has eyes for other targets beyond what appears to be a gap filling race.

We can bet away from her, and Golden Mane is one that makes some appeal amongst those on the next line.

He was good at Mornington behind his useful stablemate Velox and that form has been working out well. He was a course and distance winner three back and his best rates highly enough. We want him on our side at around the $8.00 mark.
