Artibai heads north for Kris Lees and looks hard to beat when stepping out at Doomben on Saturday.
The five-year-old gelding has been in very good form this campaign, following up a win at Newcastle with a narrow second placing at Warwick Farm last start.
Artibai (Race 5 #6) did not have much luck on that occasion blocked for a run on three occasions and was a tragedy beaten.
Lees has placed the son of Aussie Rules to perfection and leading local jockey Damian Browne takes the ride for the first time.
The recent form of Artibai rates very well in this company and from barrier 2, expecting him to not be far away in the run.
Drops back 200m where untried previously but looks to have plenty of ability and despite the short odds of $2 looks to be around a $1.70 chance against these.
Main dangers appear to be Try Four and Vodnik, both coming into this with good recent form.
Later in the day Nuclear Class (Race 7 #7) lines up in the Coke Zero Open Handicap (1050m) on the back of some good recent form.
Has been racing well in Sydney of late and is likely to measure up very well in this company. Solid when fourth at Randwick last start and has a good record over this distance range.
Right down in the weights and should go forward from the wide draw and will take plenty of running down in this.
Her effort behind Inside Job two starts back rates well on weight adjusted ratings and currently at $6 looks very good each way odds.
Looks to be a very competitive race with Whittington resuming for a new yard and Plateau Gold in good form of late but she is likely to be in the finish again.
Good luck!!
