Sydney Specials – June 21

Expect a sharply improved result from Agadir at Randwick tomorrow dropping back in grade with added fitness second up.

Agadir returns to the comfort of home on Saturday where he will contest the Hyland Race Colours 3YO Handicap (1400m).

The John O’Shea-trained gelding resumed in the Queensland Guineas three weeks ago and the outing as a whole was forgettable.

The Bernardini gelding copped a check early and was wide throughout.

Resuming over 1400m in Group company against a capacity field was never going to suit and Agadir’s fitness gave out a long way from home.

Beaten five lengths, it was the first time Agadir had finished out of the money in his six career starts to date.

The only positive which could be taken from the race was the benefit of race fitness which should assist him in the fourth race at Randwick on Saturday.

Agadir only narrowly holds favouritism at this stage ahead of Abbasso, Sugar Rush and In A Knot.

On weight adjusted figures, Agadir rates clear on top though and while his latest outing may not read overly well, the three-year-old on best form does look a class above.

Sir Bigglesworth in the TAB Quaddie Benchmark 75 Handicap (2590m) appears over the odds at present.

The Tab Quaddie Benchmark 75 Handicap is shaping as a typical winter slogfest and it could be argued the field only possesses four genuine winning chances.

Sir Bigglesworth is one of them and is the outsider of the quartet which also includes Tonapah, Saghann and Enjay.

Less than half the field sit inside the handicap and there is virtually no disclosed form over the distance amongst the 15 horse field.

Second on the Kensington track last start behind a rival here in Phrases where the four-year-old looked poised to strike 300m from home and even hit the front before allowing the subsequent winner to claw his way back.

Sir Bigglesworth seemed to lose focus when striking the front on that occasion and cost himself the win.

12 days later he rises in distance again fourth run from a spell and has the Pacifiers applied for the first time.

The One Cool Cat gelding should be closing in on peak fitness at this point of his prep and certainly appears to find a suitable race at Randwick on Saturday.

You’ll Never is currently vying for favouritism in Theraces.com.au Benchmark 85 Handicap (1400m).

He has proven costly for followers right throughout his latest campaign and despite knocking on the door of an overdue win, You’ll Never is hardly the type one should put faith in.

With two wins from 20 starts, You’ll Never has always struggled to land that knock out blow.

Saturday’s Theraces.com.au Handicap (1400m) shapes as one of the more open events on the program.

Longshoreman, Imperil, Sir Berus, Corryvreckan and Specific Choice are others who possess genuine winning claims.

While You’ll Never does as well, taking less than each way odds about a perennial placegetter isn’t overly appealing, particularly being a get back horse with the rail out seven metres at Randwick on Saturday.

He’ll likely be running on well into a minor spot late but again just bump into one or two that extra bit better.
