Michael Lakey mare Rare Ruby has banked two easy wins since resuming and can make it an impressive hat-trick on Saturday at Eagle Farm.
She caught the eye with a two-length win at Caloundra resuming over 1000m then backed it right up with an even bigger win at Doomben 24 days ago despite being held up at the top of the straight.
That was his third win from five career starts and they are nowhere near the bottom of her yet.
In hindsight she probably put the writing on the wall last campaign beating home Lennie’s Choice in a maiden at this track.
He bounced back from that to win by 3.5L next start, and confirmed his quality resuming here back in June with a seven-length romp.
This is Rare Ruby’s biggest test to date but she looks right up to the task.
Divine City was runner-up to Vis A Tergo last start and that’s pretty strong form for a race like this, but she’ll likely prove a nice target for Rare Ruby out in front.
Ticket To Dream came through the same race as Divine City and also warrants thought but I tend to think Rare Ruby will run past the pair of them.
Fast forward to race five and Sinister Prince gets his chance to win one now after finishing runner-up in both runs back from a break.
He was less than a length off Missy Longstocking first-up before she went down and won at Caulfield ahead of Saturday’s Coolmore run.
Then two weeks back Sinister Prince was second to the super talented Cape Kidnappers after looking the winner 100m from home.
It’s his turn to win one now and up to 1200m third-up he should be ready to fire.
Tax Evader might just be the biggest danger, he missed the kick and took no part at Doomben two weeks back but has since dominated a trial.
He ran some nice races at Listed level last campaign and has his share of class but this might just be a fraction short.
Lucky Sound is another handy one resuming, but I think Sinister Prince’s fitness edge will prove crucial.
Our lay this week is Morning Captain who we unsuccessfully banked on seven days ago.
He looked the winner in that race for a fleeting moment at the 100m mark until Qfighter rattled past late on.
Now he’s up against the in-form sprinting lot up here and he has a lot more on his plate with the $3 pricetag.
Vintage Moss was super impressive here two runs back before a below-par effort at Doomben three weeks ago at an unsuitable track.
He’s back to the wide open spaces of Eagle Farm today and will be very hard to hold out from his good gate.
Belltone won at Doomben two weeks back after returning from his Epsom run in Sydney and can simply prove too classy again.
De Dozen Stars looks ready to win again while Signified hasn’t been far off all campaign.
I thought last week was Morning Captain’s chance and I’m prepared to take him on this time.
