Another top draft from Armidale Stud

Armidale Stud has another great draft at this year’s Tasmanian magic Millions Yearling Sale with quality offerings from their highly rated stallions Needs Further and Alpine Eagle as well as evergreen sire Tough Speed.

In Brief

  • Plenty of variety at this year's yearling sale.
  • Lot 56 the pick of Armidale's draft of fillies.
  • One that could fly under the radar.

Lot 17 – is a beautifully balanced filly out of a consistent, very fast race mare, Arenzano.

The filly is a half-sister to Emily, who from just seven starts has won four and she contests the Magic Millions 3 & 4YO Classic in Launceston on Sunday in which she is one of the favourites.

Alpine Eagle has cemented his position as a leading young stallion and is the sire of 35 individual winners, including Tasmanian Guineas and Launceston Guineas winner Alpine Wolf, multiple stakes placed The Map and Eye of the Eagle.

Lot 10 – This colt presents an excellent opportunity for someone looking to purchase a strong, well-grown colt with great conformation.

By Armidale's resident Group One sire and sire of the moment Needs Further, this colt is the third living foal from the well related Exceed and Excel mare, Aimless.

Needs Further is a proven speed source and has been mated accordingly with this colt's dam.

Needs Further is an incredibly consistent sire and has enjoyed success at the top echelon with Champion 3YO Mystic Journey and Stakes winners Deroche, Mystical Pursuit, Pateena Arena, Bold Star, and Needs Sugar and The Spirit Of Zero won the Listed $125,000 2YO Elwick Stakes and Listed $150,000 Gold Sovereign 2YO, respectively this season.

Lot 56 – The Queen of the Armidale draft. By sire of the moment in Needs Further, from the stakes placed South Australian mare, Flying Krupt, this filly is a fast 2YO type and is in the same mould as one of the stars of this year's 2YO crop, Needs Sugar.

Lot 57 – Just a lovely filly that may go under the radar. She is a quality filly with the pzazz and x factor to take her all the way to the top.

She's from a very well-bred fast mare in Garland and her sire, All Too Hard is a consistent source of winners at the top level of racing.

The sale is on Monday at Quercus Park Carrick, with the first yearling to go under the hammer at around noon.

Aushorse will also hold an educational session at the sales complex on Sunday between 10:00 – 11:00 to help educate the novices on what to look for at a yearling sale with experienced trainers John Blacker, Adam Trinder and Siggy Carr as well as Armidale's Robyn Whishaw on hand to explain how they go about selecting and preparing yearlings.
