Olive Sets Sights On Magic Millions

Canberra based trained Nick Olive is now eying off the Magic Millions Two-Year-Old Classic, following the impressive debut victory of Single Gaze at Rosehill Gardens.

Confident in her ability, Olive elected to throw the daughter of Not A Single Doubt in the deep-end, with the flashy chestnut passing with flying colours.

Sent out the 80-1 outsider of the field, Single Gaze proved most impressive when coming from near last to weave through the field and flash home down the outside.

Hitting the line powerfully to score by a length, Olive was simply ecstatic with her performance.

"We thought she was going very well, but we didn't know where she fitted in," Olive said.

"At the 200 metres I thought we were going to run a nice third or fourth - at the 100 metres though, I was pretty confident we were going to win the race."

Though yet to pencil in any concrete plans, Olive said the Magic Millions remains her likely target.

"We've just got to sit down and see how she pulls up, she's a very tough filly, very professional," Olive said.

"She's paid up for the Magic Millions, so that's where we want to head with her in January."

Kathy O'Hara rode Single Gaze in her sole trial in the lead up, and was quite surprised with her performance.

"It doesn't happen often when two-year-olds are off the bridle that they keep finding," O'Hara said.

"To be honest I couldn't see her picking up the leaders where she was. She was a long way from them and not travelling.

Single Gaze brought up Olive's first victory of the season in metropolitan company, having previously placed with handy mares Without A Shadow and Rose Of Falvelon.

In what has been a remarkable start to this season, Olive is currently striking at 20 per cent and is already a clear leader in the Canberra Racing Club Trainer's Premiership.

From just 21 starters at Thoroughbred Park, Olive already collected eight wins and six minor placings, all of which finished second.

Currently two wins clear of Keith Dryden, Olive looks to again hold a mortgage over the Trainer's Premiership.
