The Gai Waterhouse-trained Mr Boomsday has recorded a dominant debut win in the opening race at Canterbury on Wednesday.
Trained by Gai Waterhouse and raced by Round Table Racing, Mr Boomsday provided the new partnership with their first winner in combination.
It was a clinical success as the Domesday gelding bounced to the lead from an inside draw and never looked back, recording a soft win.
“It’s great to get Round Table Racing off the mark,” Gai Waterhouse Stable Foreman Mark Newnham said.
Mr Boomsday’s debut success is encouraging in the fact the Domesday gelding is largely expected to be better over further than 1250m.
“Once getting up to a middle distance up over 1600m to 2000m he will really start to come into his own,” Round Table Racing Manager Bruce Slade said.
“This is just the start.”
Mr Boomsday’s debut victory continued Josh Parr’s latest run of form with the jockey having ridden six metropolitan winners during the past fortnight.
“He is a nice horse to work with,” winning jockey Josh Parr said.
“He is very raw and has a good deal of improvement left in him. They [connections] are going to have some fun with the guy.”
Further into the Canterbury program, James McDonald claimed a race to race double aboard the John O’Shea-trained Kona and the highly promising Ball Of Muscle.
The double sees McDonald move within two wins of current Sydney Jockey’s Premiership leader Nash Rawiller who leads the way with 70.
