Historical Analysis of the Zipping Classic
ZIPPING CLASSIC - G2 2400m
While seen as somewhat of a consolation prize, the Zipping (Sandown) Classic does offer excellent prize money.
At G2 level, it caters for many horses just below the Melbourne Cup, although some do back up. Zipping did an amazing job winning FOUR straight runnings. Take a look at the last few Classic winners.

RECENT WINNERS
2015 - WHO SHOT THEBARMAN 7g (Yamanin Vital x Ears Carol) ($3.50 eq fav)
Jockey: James McDonald, Trainer: Chris WallerBarrier: 4, Weight: 59.0kg, Gross Time: 2:29.10
Margin: 7L, Track: Good (3), Starters: 72nd: Tall Ship (59.0kg), 3rd: Do You Remember (57.0kg)
Review: What a great ride this was. Coming off the Melbourne Cup hasn’t been a bad lead up in recent years and given this year was run in a walking way, he wasn’t harmed backing off that.
Sitting back last, McDonald took off at the 1400m and had the lead within 400m. Once he rolled along, the others were in trouble and he pricked his ears before the turn.
By the 300m mark McDonald was posing for the print. Despite some disappointments in the race, WSTB finally got a deserved win in a prep which was good in all the big races.
2014 - AU REVOIR 4h (Singspiel x First) ($4.50)
Jockey: Kerrin McEvoy, Trainer: Andre FabreBarrier: 7, Weight: 59.0kg, Gross Time: 2:32.06
Margin: 0.2L, Track: Good (3), Starters: 82nd: Epingle (57.0kg), 3rd: Prince Of Penzance (59.0kg)
Review: Yet another staying race over the carnival went to an international horse and while this one was not exactly having much hands on treatment by Andre Fabre, just the fact it was in his name gave it some credence.
He’d brought in very solid form from France in the Prix Foy, the MV Cup run was more than adequate as was the effort in the Melbourne Cup.
In a funny run race he went forward with others expected to lead but they missed the jump. He kept on kicking and held off the mare up the inside. It was a big day for OTI Racing.
2013 - SERTORIUS 6g (Galileo x Pretty Penny) ($3.75)
Jockey: Ryan Maloney, Trainer: Jamie Edwards & Bruce ElkingtonBarrier: 1, Weight: 59.0kg, Gross Time: 2:30.97
Margin: 2L, Track: Dead (4), Starters: 102nd: Epingle (57.0kg), 3rd: Queenstown (56.0kg)
Review: With the races moved to Caulfield as Sandown was being re-turfed, it took something away from the day but the Zipping Classic was a good contest.
Strangely a year run without a Lloyd Williams runner in it, they ran along over the 2400m. The mares set the speed and by the 600m, Queenstown had them all off the bit.
Precedence couldn’t back up his QEII effort but the one he conquered, Sertorius, fought like a tiger and surged up the fence to hold off all the mares.
