The Romans left some time ago leaving the coast clear for City of Troy to be crowned king of York.

The influence of the Romans or their later version came to the fore when one of Galileo's many children provided him with his 100th G1 winner and that was Content in the Yorkshire Oaks.

Raiders came from far and wide, the furthest being Asfoora from Australia in the Nunthorpe where she finished fourth and Durezza from Japan where he finished fifth to City of Troy in the Juddmonte. Both are now returning to their respective homes. And a quick glimplse into the future maybe - Asfoora got a full baby sister this week!

If it was ever to be a battle between Godolphin and Coolmore then the latter definitely had the upper hand, as they have had at most venues this season.  But the prize for the most impressive win goes to City of Troy – there were doubters around following his 9th in the 2000 Guineas but otherwise his record is perfect. The home team's confidence never wavered and of course he is beautifully bred by Justify out of a Galileo mare.

The weather was cooperative and the track was fast with many records broken.  While British racing has many problems, meetings like the Ebor give one a glimmer of hope for the future.
