Sam King has landed 25/2, 40,1 and 10/3 winners across the last three columns and is back with two selections on Wednesday…
The Feminine Urge – Carlisle 2.50
George Scott opted to send his filly The Feminine Urge north for her nursery debut at Catterick recently and was duly rewarded when she got up in the shadows of the post. Connections have once more decided to make the long journey from Newmarket to seek a second successive victory and I wouldn't be surprised if they were rewarded again.
The nature of Carlisle's stiff finish should really suit this daughter of Mehmas, who did well in overcoming trouble in running when making a successful handicap bow by a nose at Catterick in August. The fact stable jockey Callum Shepherd makes the long journey from HQ to partner her for the first time suggests they clearly expect a bold bid, and with further progress surely on the cards, the 3lb rise handed to her for winning last-time-out could prove lenient.
Odds – 11/4
Broken Spear – Carlisle 5.33
Later on the card, a chance is taken on Broken Spear, who at the age of eight, is having his first outing at Carlisle. You'd normally expect to see Tony Coyle's charge entered up at Doncaster around this time of year, but with his favoured soft ground on display at Carlisle, there's no reason he can't run well at a decent price.
A mark of 73 is now 7lb lower than his last winning rating, which came over this trip at Leicester in May 2023. He's also solely raced in Class 4 company on the turf this season and with the drop in grade another plus on rain-softened ground, the 12/1 on offer looks more than fair in what appears a wide-open seven-furlong handicap.
Odds – 12/1
