Thursday's racing round-up includes the latest news of City Of Troy's Breeders' Cup Classic preparation…
Connections of City Of Troy confirmed today that City Of Troy will head to Southwell on September 20th for a racecourse gallop in preparation for his bid at the Breeders' Cup Classic at Del Mar in November. Winner of the Derby, Eclipse, and last week's Juddmonte International, City Of Troy will face American starting stalls and the sound of a ringing bell as he gallops approximately a mile with a group of stablemates. It will not be the first time Southwell has been used by Aidan O'Brien in the past to prepare his Breeders' Cup runners, with Giant's Causeway working there in 2000, while Derby hero Galileo did the same a year later. The gallop will take place in the afternoon and will be open to the public.
Richard Hannon's Shouldvebeenaring looks set for a second crack at the Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock following his excellent third-place finish behind surprise winner Breege in the City of York Stakes on the Knavesmire. The Middleham Park-owned grey has been a model of consistency at group level and will bid to go one place better than when beaten a neck by Regional twelve months ago.
Clive Cox revealed his sprinter Jasour is making good progress from the injury that ruled him out of the Group 2 King George Stakes at Goodwood after connections stumped up £20,000 to supplement. Options remain open for the speedy grey son of Havana Grey, with both the Flying Five Stakes at the Curragh on September 15 and the Betfair Sprint Cup on September 7 expected to come under consideration.
Karl Burke's Queen Mary Stakes winner Leovanni looks set to contest the Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket after finishing an honourable third in the Lowther Stakes at York last week. The daughter of Kodi Bear carried a penalty on the Knavesmire and with connections satisfied she saw out the six-furlong trip, a step up to top-level company appears to be on the cards.
