Gather Ye Rosebuds will not be given any immediate targets following her disappointing run in the Group 2 Musidora Stakes.
An impressive nine-and-a-half length winner of a Newbury maiden, Gather Ye Rosebuds struggled when trying Group company for the first time in the Group 2 Musidora Stakes. She hung right and faded from two furlongs out, finishing eleven-and-a-half lengths last behind Soul Sister. In the steward's report, trainer Jack Channon cited the going (good) was the reason behind the filly's disappointing display.
Channon said: "She's great and has come out of the race at York well. She's put on 20kg since York which is amazing really and I think it was just a blend of the quicker surface and generally just being a raw, big and green filly.
"If you looked at them in the paddock before the Musidora she was double the size of anything else in the race and I think it was more greenness than anything that has put paid to her not coming up to standard. Once Jamie [Spencer] was beat he looked after her and if he had got stuck in she would have run a bit better a race on paper.
"But she's a lovely big filly and we're in no rush with her. Mr [Paul] Shanahan and Mr [MV] Magnier [owners] have said to me give her all the time she needs and hopefully she will be having another crack at black type at the back-end of the year after sort of just getting another race into her in between.
"She's a filly who hopefully won't just be around for this year but next season as well, so if she takes a bit of time to reach her full potential then I will certainly facilitate that for her. She's still a very exciting prospect going forward."
