The Platinum Queen ‘likely to need a run’ ahead of Temple

Trainer Roger Varian is expecting The Platinum Queen will need the run ahead of her seasonal reappearance in the Group 2 Temple Stakes at Haydock on Saturday.

The three-year-old will be having her first start for the Roger Varian yard after a successful juvenile campaign with Richard Fahey. She was sold by owners Middleham Park Racing at the Tattersalls December Mare Sale for 1,200,000 guineas to Katsumi Yoshida of Northern Farm. It was a success for the racing club, having bought the filly at the Guineas Breeze Up Sale for 57,000 guineas earlier in the year.

The Platinum Queen demonstrated sharp improvement when finishing second in the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes at York against older horses. She backed up that performance by winning the all-age Group 1 Prix l'Abbaye at Longchamp on 'Arc' day before a defeat against her own age group at the Breeder's Cup in the Juvenile Turf Sprint.

Roger Varian said: "She's ready to start and looks a picture, [but] she will likely need a run.

"She's obviously new to us, but Richard Fahey has been very helpful I have to say.

"She's quite a highly-strung filly, so we've had to feel our way with her through the spring and a lot of the horses are just coming forward from their first outing.

"I think she'll run a nice race, the track and the speed test should suit her and I think the run will put her right."
