David Menuisier is eyeing a tilt at the Canadian International with Thundering Blue after his stable star secured another notable prize with a decisive victory in the Group Three Stockholm Cup at Bro Park in Sweden.

The five-year-old won the Group Two York Stakes back in July before finishing a highly creditable third on his return to the Knavesmire for the Juddmonte International on his latest outing.

Dropped in class for this 12-furlong event, Fran Berry delivered Thundering Blue with a well-timed challenge to sprint past fellow British runner Crowned Eagle, who is trained by Marco Botti, and claim a clear-cut success.

Our Last Summer set the early pace and hung on to claim third, with the placed trio coming home well ahead of the rest of the field.

Menuisier told Press Association Sport: “It’s not easy with all the travelling and everything else, so I feel relieved and absolutely delighted.

“He did it well and I think this was a good trial for some of those big races in North America as the track is very similar to those American turf tracks.

“The Canadian International (at Woodbine on October 13) has always been the plan. It is only three weeks away so we’ll have to see how he is, but I think that is very likely to be his next target.”
