Buick times it right to get Endless home in Lillie Langtry

William Buick produced Endless Time just in time to reward favourite-backers in the Markel Insurance Lillie Langtry Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.

The class horse in the race, Charlie Appleby's mare was sent off the 5-2 market leader but a furlong out she still had plenty to do.

Dubka had taken over for Ryan Moore after a barging match with Dawn Horizons, while Melodic Motion and Natural Scenery threw down their challenges.

Just as Dubka had seen those off, though, Buick found daylight on Endless Time and she flew home to win by a neck.

Buick said: "She travels very well and in the Yorkshire Cup I might have got there too soon.

"Charlie just said ride a race and let it unfold, but it got a bit congested. She got herself organised and went through the ground really well.

"On her day she's pretty good, there's very few in training that deserve to win a Group One more than her."

Appleby now has his sights set on landing a Group One prize with the winner having secured this Group Three assignment.

He said: "I've got to give credit to William, but she's a great mare and 100 per cent genuine.

"I knew she'd get the trip and love the ground. I have to say, though, I was stood with Mark McStay, whose family bred her, and I thought we might be in trouble on the rail but William got her out in time.

"She deserves a win like that as she's knocked on the door in a few Group Ones and I'm delighted to have a winner here.

"I'd love to win a Group One with her and we might go back for the Prix Vermeille (second last year) or the Prix Royal-Oak, but it's not out of the question we could look at the Irish St Leger."
