Dartmouth gave the Queen a Glorious Goodwood winner after overcoming a rough passage to land the Educate A Child Stakes.

The 9-4 favourite got the better of a barging match late on in the hands of French ace Olivier Peslier to claim the mile-and-a-half handicap and hand winning trainer Sir Michael Stoute his sixth success in the race.

Racing in midfield for much of the journey, the son of Dubawi looked as though his chances of victory had been compromised with a wall of horses in front of him approaching the final two furlongs.

Forcing a gap between runners, Peslier steered the recent Ascot winner into the clear before powering to a two-length victory from the staying-on Antiquarium.

Stoute said: "This fellow is really progressive and I am delighted with his win today.

"He was drawn out wide at (Royal) Ascot and had to stay there, but his last two victories have been very smooth. I am really happy with him.

"What I would like first of all is to keep him in training as a four-year-old and then play it backwards from there.

"It is impossible to tell (if he will be a Pattern horse) as there is such a gap to bridge, but he has got a good mind and is sound, touch wood."

He added: "I actually asked Hughesie (Richard Hughes) to ride him but he had been booked for the Meehan horse (Senrima)."
