Moore Off The Mark

Stravagante produced a devastating turn of foot to run out the impressive three and a quarter length winner of the Investec Private Banking Handicap.

The 7/2 second favourite had to come wide under jockey Ryan Moore to deliver his challenge but the response was instant when his pilot asked him for his effort and he sprinted away from his rivals in the final furlong.

Gibeon stuck on well to take second, with Taper Tantrum finishing a further length and a half back in third.

Stravagante's victory gave trainer Sir Michael Stoute his third winner of this race in 10 years, following Conduit's victory in 2008 and Stage Gift's success in 2006.

"I was a bit worried about the ground today but I was wrong about that," said Moore.

"He hasn't had much racing, he's improving and hopefully he will go on again.

"We went quick early on then we steadied down the hill. I was a bit mindful that they might sprint away from him and he might be a bit babyish but, once he has got into gear, he was never going to get beat.

"It's good to firm ground."
